The UR-3R waste recycling facility proposes a sustainable alternative for the East Darling Harbour precinct of Sydney’s central business district.
To consider the fabric of the city in terms of the reality in which it resides poses a host of compelling questions.
If we are to adopt the modern western capitalist ideology of the profit of the individual then how can this be formalised to create meaningful and resolved solutions. Segregation?
What occurs of the needs of the user, the ‘volk’? In what rests their sign of hope, their ideology to cling to in times of desperation? Monument?
What are the wishes and longings of the users – the goal for which they are working day and night? A place to go and enjoy good company and a meal? A house by the water with a double garage?
Ground Floor Plan
Level 01 Plan
In truth western capitalism must encompass all these notions and more and consequently the site must gain identity – be sufficiently separated and segregated in order to denote place and belonging, offer the capacity of becoming a home, and acknowledge what essentially is a populace inherently proud of its journey and achievement through monumental proportion. It is in essence a complete rejection of the primary scheme.
